Consulting Process

College Connections provides one-on-one consulting with students and their families to facilitate the college search process. An initial meeting is held with the student and their parent(s). At this meeting goals and expectations will be covered and an agreement reached as to what the family wants from this partnership. As with any joint venture the process is open to change through the course of the journey. This will be dependent on what each family wants and how the process moves forward. The number of counseling sessions is student/parent driven. There is no “magic” number of visits.

Through counseling sessions and “homework” assignments Ms. Mehaffey will work with your student to identify their strengths as an applicant. Through this process a college list will be established which will identify colleges and universities that best match the student’s interests, needs, personality, financial concerns and admissions profile.

Concurrent to the college list development, calendars will be set to make sure that entrance exams are taken on a timely basis, essays are written and reviewed, college visits are scheduled as needed and applications are started. The goal of College Connections is to provide a realistic roadmap for the college search process which does not take over either the student’s or the parent’s lives. This should only be one part of the student’s weekly schedule. There will still be time for family, homework, sports, jobs, social events and….most importantly sleep!
